MY STORY

Kyle Minton is a Michigan native raised by his mother, a union teacher, and his step-father, a Teamster. While it took him a long time to realize it, it was union jobs that gave him and his two brothers a solid middle-class life, much like his grandfather's union job gave his mother a good life before him.

All through school Kyle enjoyed reading and writing. He competed in poetry competitions, majored in English Literature at Oakland University, and aspired to be an English teacher. Unfortunately, as he approached graduation with $50,000 in student loans the teaching profession had been obliterated by neoliberalism; the good union job that gave him such a great middle-class life didn't seem to be an option.

Almost by accident Kyle landed a job at Quicken Loans in the talent acquisition field. Since then he's worked in various roles where he works with prospective candidates navigating the labor market. He has an excellent track record in writing successful résumés and cover letters as well as managing a profitable team of talent acquisition professionals.

In 2016, Kyle was radicalized by the Bernie Sanders campaign for the presidency. He was struck by the concept of universal, single-payer healthcare. Being an asthmatic who struggled to pay for medication, being saddled with student debt, having seen the destruction of his dream profession he became infatuated with a government that was comprised of and worked for the people. He then spent most of 2017 reading and writing about Democratic Socialism.

In 2018, Kyle joined the Democratic Socialists of America for a whirlwind two years of activism as the Co-Chair of the Metro-Detroit Chapter's Healthcare Working Group. He birdogged politicians, organized and hosted healthcare town halls, spoke at union halls and with other orgs, and even led a protest of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in response to her appointment of healthcare CEO Dan Leopp to her transition team.

In 2020 the healthcare group had launched a virtual townhall about the importance of Medicare for All during the COVID 19 pandemic. After the event, many of the members decided to focus on other projects and the group was disbanded. Kyle remains dedicated to the fight for Medicare for All and hopes to continue working towards it in whatever capacity he can.

Kyle is also an avid outdoorsmen. He loves rock climbing, mountain biking, XC skiing, hiking, camping, and just about anything else that can be done outside.

In 2021 he became a father.
